Out on the road today I drive this black 05 Crossfire with a six speed manual attached. This Chrysler is one of the shared technology vehicles between Chrysler and Mercedes. This Crossfire has a Mercedes engine and suspension components and design cues. With this as a solid platform Chrysler created a sports coupe. The styling of this car reminds me off a tear drop shape. With a long hood and tear shaped from the windshield back this is a classic styling look. It reminds me of the mid year Corvette coupes or the Jaguar E Type of that era. Chrysler updates it with short over hangs and large diameter wheels. This car looks best in black and this what I drive today. Taking a close look at the interior I am surprised on how much space there is for a sports car. A hear hatch back provides room for luggage or storage for daily chores. The seats are very supportive and wrap around you a bit. The dash lay out is a classic design that reminds me of the Mercedes SLK. Analogue gauges are surround by a ring of aluminum as well as the center dash is finished in brushed aluminum. The switch gear is for the most part is toggle styled switches and the audio system is heard but not scene. The system is colored matched to the brushed aluminum center stack. The manual is easy to use and reach, with in no time you can be up to sixth gear with out much effort. The whole interior is placed to accentuate the driving experience.
Under that long hood lies a Mercedes 3.2 V6 that puts out 215 horsepower and 225 foot pounds of torque. While this engine is not fast it is very quick and can be brought to life through the right gear selection. This car has a very rigid chassis and hands very crisp handling. The chassis with larger wheels really allow for quick turn in and apex carving turns. The suspension is however very compliant over rough roads and the usual condition of our roads. This Crossfire makes for a great fun car to take out do some serious driving. The styling and engineering all make you want to go. Thanks to Mercedes this car also is happy zipping around town or being that daily commuter that has style. Some say this is a cheap version of SLK but I think it stands on its own as a unique car. You do get plenty of Mercedes hiding under the skin you do not have the pay for the symbol. Stop and see this Crossfire for less than 10 grand.
